DataMAX II is a state-of-the-art Windows 2000 based analog instrumentation recorder designed to replace traditional tape based data recorders. Using the latest technology, DataMAX II eliminates the time consuming methods of the past with a single precision instrument that will replace a tape recorder, data acquisition system, and monitoring scopes. From calibration to analysis, a test can now be run in a fraction of the time, with far greater accuracy than was possible with traditional analog recorders.

Real Time Monitor

DataMAX II has a built-in monitor function. No external scope or spectrum analyzers are needed to verify the reliability of your recordings! You can choose a combination of Bar Chart, Digital Voltmeter, Oscilloscope, and Power Spectrum Density displays to monitor the data and to verify signal accuracy prior to and during data collection.

DataMAX II includes an individual Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) per channel. This innovative approach eliminates multiplexing and guarantees precise time alignment across channels by simultaneously clocking all the ADCs. In the unlikely event that any one ADC might falter, neither the operation nor data integrity of the remaining channels will be affected.

DataMAX II combines precision analog hardware for either differential voltage or ICP® accelerometers with a multiple parallel bus structure and uses the most advanced 16 bit Analog to Digital design available. It stores continuous data at unprecedented speeds: 64 channels at 50 kHz bandwidth, or up to 90 kHz with fewer channels. The DataMAX II multi-speed recorder will meet your most demanding test and measurement requirements in lab, field, or flight applications.

Reliable Technology, Dependable Accuracy

DataMAX II incorporates surface mount components, shock mounted drive bays, high capacity fans, and positive subassembly mechanical restraints in a shock resistant housing for maximum reliability, even under adverse conditions. To eliminate distortion and maximize signal integrity, DataMAX II incorporates a complete analog front end, including Programmable Gain Amplifiers, brickwall Anti-Aliasing Filters, and Simultaneous Sampling. The system’s Programmable Differential Amplifier accepts signals of wide dynamic range and high frequency, permitting DataMAX II to handle static, vibration, acoustic, sonar, and pyro-shock tests. The programmable Anti-Aliasing Filter is a steep Linear Phase design whose flat passband and excellent phase characteristics are perfect for frequency or time domain studies. Based on your filter selection, DataMAX II will automatically select the sampling rate to safeguard your data from aliasing signals. No guesswork or calculation is required!

Convenience and Performance

Click the Record button and DataMAX II is collecting data. It doesn’t get any easier than that! The DataMAX II Recording Manager automatically sets the system based on your previous Setup File. It also monitors the amount of disk storage space and automatically tells you how much recording time is available for data acquisition. No calculations are required! When you want to stop testing, click the Stop button. DataMAX II keeps track of each test by saving your data under the previously assigned file name with an automatically incremented file extension. No more remembering the file name or noting it on paper! The power behind this convenience is extraordinary.

Recording Flexibility

DataMAX II provides 3+1 distinct recording modes to suit your most demanding recording requirements. These are Continuous, Timed, and Timer modes, each with a Remote Control option. The Continuous mode acts like a standard tape recorder: push a button to start and stop a data collection session. The Timed mode provides you with a fixed time record duration after you push the Record button. Timer mode lets you record a fixed duration after a fixed time interval. This is perfect for quality control test requirements, where you would like to log data periodically for the product under test. The Remote Control feature lets you work in any of the above modes when you supply an external trigger pulse. Multiple recorders can be locked together to gather data synchronously on up to 1620 channels at high bandwidth using a Master/Slave relationship.

Real Time Monitor and Measure

While the data is being gathered, you can view a combination of 4 distinct displays to monitor the signal of up to 8 channels. To look at all the channels simultaneously, select the Bar Chart mode which lets you view the signal strength of all the channels with Peak Hold capability to notify you of any transient activity. Two time domain displays are provided: the Digital Voltmeter monitors DC levels, and the Oscilloscope display provides a graphic view of signal activity.

A Power Spectrum Density display lets you look at the signal in frequency space for vibration, sonar, and acoustic monitor applications. In addition, preset Load Displays provide the ability to quickly scroll through all the channels, eight at a time, to verify signal integrity prior to or during recording, between cursors, plus RMS and average values.

Access to more sophisticated signal processing is provided in the DataMAX II Review Manager, allowing high speed file conversion for industry standard software processing packages.

Playback and Analysis

Data can be played back instantly after recording using the DataMAX II Review Manager. After selecting a file, use the Bar Chart, Voltmeter, Oscilloscope, and Power Spectrum Density display options to play back the data in time or frequency domain. Cursors are available for quick measurements, similar to the real time monitor.

To extract the information needed for data analysis, the Review Manager provides utilities to export files to a wide selection of advanced signal processing formats, including DADiSP
and MATLAB. In addition, DataMAX II includes the Windows 2000 operating system so you can transfer files over a LAN to server or workstation for high speed analysis or archiving.

Setup, Configuration, Flexibility, and Backup

To minimize storage space and processing time, DataMAX II provides a wide selection of sample rates, from 100 samples per second (SPS) (40 Hz bandwidth) to 200 KSPS (90 kHz bandwidth). Each input is capable of sampling at 2.5 times the filter cutoff point, making DataMAX II ideal for frequency studies. Oversampling selections of 5 and 10 times the selected filter cutoff are also available, providing optimal time resolution for applications such as shock studies.

A pre-test zero can be specified to record the DC offset of the input channel and can be used to eliminate offsets, similar to a tare (or zero) function. Acquired data can also be accurately synchronized to external events using IRIG time options. DataMAX II records all operating parameters and notations as a permanent part of the recorded data. These parameters and notes are saved in a comprehensive parameter file for future reference. If a test needs repeating, any of the files can be loaded so you won’t have to manually enter the system’s setup parameters. Also, an ASCII spreadsheet file can be imported from your master test configuration file to automatically set up the system.

In addition to the standard hard drive, DataMAX II offers an archive tape option for permanent storage or to transport data to different locations. Optional data backup devices, including DVD, AIT, and other computer peripheral devices are also available.

Outstanding Value

DataMAX II introduces a new dimension to the concept of large scale continuous data collection. Standard features embedded in DataMAX II are not available in other systems, even as high cost options.
